![]() Building up a military fighting force in Orion proved to be a logistical nightmare. Vanduul attacks continued with some frequency: in the first year alone, outposts throughout the Orion system had been raided fifteen times and casualties among the colonists were devastating. ![]() They were either nonplussed at finding a working Human settlement on territory they used for supply … or they were overjoyed at finding a new species of prey. As such, they considered Armitage ‘their’ world. ![]() The UEE deployed research assets to the region to study the threat, ultimately determining that the Vanduul considered Armitage to be a “feeding world.” Vanduul warrior hordes seem to travel nomadically, occasionally revisiting past areas that they have identified as reservoirs of natural resources. The UEE was truly taken by surprise: there had been absolutely no indication of an aggressor species in the region, and contacts among the Banu had failed to mention the Vanduul in any interactions. This all ended on August 9, 2681, when mankind’s greatest menace made their entrance: a heavily armed Vanduul raiding party struck the main post on Armitage and slaughtered the colonists there. Using Orion as a rallying point, a strong colonial movement surged through the Human homeworlds as politicians began to extol the virtues of “reaching out for the galaxy.” Within five years, Armitage was a bustling developing world buoyed by the discovery of a profitable lode of precious metals in the system’s asteroid belt. The timing for the discovery of a new habitable world was ideal since proponents of the aging Project Far Star expansion program were looking for something to revive the public’s interest in continued colonization. According to the Jump point "their is absolutely no practical reason to visit Orion."Īstrophysicists predict that there at least two unexplored jump points in the system.First discovered in 2650, the Orion System was found to contain a single habitable planet, Orion III, which would be named Armitage by the navjumper Joshua Reece, in honor of his youth spent in Staffordshire on Earth. Nomadic Vanduul groups still pick up food from Armitage and ore from the gold and platinum-rich asteroids. Over 200 years later, Armitage, despite its dying ecosphere is still settled by a small of group of humans. Armitage was bombarded with anti-matter bombs and laid into ruins. The Battle of Orion raged for 3 days until the system was abandoned by the UEE. On a large Vanduul fleet invaded the system. Armitage was stripped from its status as a colony world. Due to its isolated position and for logistic reasons, the UEE Command never deployed large task forces. Vanduul attacks continued, cause of his status of a weak-protected "feeding world." In 6 months outposts over the system had been raided fifteen times. It was the first contact between both species. On August 9, 2681, heavily armed Vanduul struck a post on Armitage, murdered dozens of civilians and abducted a farmer. Only a private-initiated strong colonial movement surged through the human homeworlds in the 2660s lead a greater interest in the system and the settlement of Orion III (as part of Project FarStar), despite its lack of importance, and Orion became the most distant human-controlled system. The Orion System was first charted by a stranded long-range UEE destroyer squadron in 2650.ĭue to only a few exploitable natural resources, missing strategic jump points, and their location on the periphery of the UEE, no major investments had been initiated in the first ten years. The system is still under control by the Vanduul. Vanduul forces entered the system in 2712, defeated the human fleet and destroyed Armitage. Its only habitable planet Armitage was colonized in the 2660s. The Orion system is a former United Empire of Earth planetary system.
